Sample cover letter for Internship position at Gen elec

Dear Sir/Madam

I am interested in applying for the Electrical Engineering 12 Month Placement / Internship that I saw advertised on Gradcracker.

I am currently studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Sheffield Hallam and achieved a 1^st in my starting year and am predicted a 2:1 this year, although I hope to achieve higher. I first developed a genuine interest in engineering when I took part in a Headstart course in which I worked as part of a team in order to create a motion sensor buggy. This project helped me to develop my problem-solving skills as well as my interpersonal skills as I was working on something which was quite new to me with people that I didn’t know.

I believe a placement at General Electric will give me the opportunity to fully understand what problems I would have to face within a career in engineering. Also with General Electric being a company I would be interested in working for, it would allow me to demonstrate how I could be asset to the company.
