Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Gilbane

POSITION:

Engineer

Dear Mr. Epstein,

About a year ago, I learned of Gilbane’s consecutive rankings in FORTUNE Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For”. Since then, I have been curious as to what Gilbane does so well to achieve such a prestigious status. Luckily, my curiosity was recently satisfied when I had the opportunity to talk with Matthew Simone, a Business Development Manager. I was especially interested to hear Mr. Simone’s account of the intimate management style and emphasis on teamwork. I think it’s important to the integrity and sustainability of a company for the management to be directly involved with every level of staff. As someone with a passion for building quality infrastructure, I was thrilled to see your posting for Assistant Superintendent.

As a senior civil engineering major with a minor in engineering management, I’ve had significant experience working in teams to deliver a product. While studying abroad in Sydney, Australia, I coordinated a rural road design project for my transportation class. Since students in Australia commute to university, my group members sent me their schedules each week at which point I selected possible meeting times. This process streamlined our communications and kept us in sync for timely project completion, and will help me contribute to productivity at Gilbane. Additionally, my experience as a Transportation Construction Inspector (TCI) on the Dunn Memorial Bridge in Albany, NY, has given me significant insight in large-scale construction from a client’s perspective. Two of my main duties were to inspect ongoing work and safety, and delegate between the Engineer in Charge and the contractor’s superintendent and foremen. I will utilize my experience as a TCI with the NYS DOT to help Gilbane deliver the best possible product to its clients by keeping all parties well-informed and ensuring construction has been completed to specifications. Additionally, my experience as a Teaching Assistant and Peer Advisor has also helped me develop leadership skills that will help me work well with Gilbane’s employees and clients.

Sincerely,
