Sample cover letter for Internship position at Goldman Sachs

POSITION:

Internship

I am a second year BSc Economics student. I am writing because I am very interested in your summer internship opportunities and hope that you will consider me for an interview. After reading reviews of students who have done internships in previous years, I was extremely impressed at how they spoke about the culture at Mitsubishi UFJ, particularly how the interns were treated as if they were already part of the company. The Debt Capital Markets division appeals to me particularly as it is an essential part of the services offered to customers and is an area that has interested in my university studies.

During my first year at university I excelled in my mathematics and financial accounting modules scoring over 70% in all of them. These results coupled with my A-Level grades I hope demonstrate the academic abilities required to be considered for an internship. Just as important as technical abilities I believe, is the ability to work well in a team. Playing various team sports and partaking in outdoor activities has made me work more efficiently in a group. Captaining my football team I improved my leadership skills, realising the importance of taking on board everyone’s input and using it to develop strategies to give the best collective result.

The summer internship programme is attractive to me as it would allow me to learn from professionals who are already where I aspire to be, which would be excellent for my development. The rotational aspect is also appealing as it would allow me to learn about different areas of the bank. Mitsubishi UFJ is an internationally respected, secure bank and its success was highlighted last year as it was named the PFI global bank of the year. It seems to have a great culture and treats its employees well and I feel given the opportunity, it would be a great place to take my first career steps which are so important to future success.
