Sample cover letter for Internship position at Goldman Sachs
Analyst
As Winston Churchill quoted “Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot… Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon,” I wish to take this opportunity to present to you my skills that I have acquired over the years in the securities industry as well as a marketing student. In a complex financial market with instability due to public publicity negatively impacting the market, I believe quantitative analysis provides the true value of any business. Through my experiences, I am interested in pursuing an analyst position at your firm.
This analytical position is relevant to Arthur W. Wood Company. As an intern I was held responsible for a telecommunication stock called Acme Packet for in depth research. It produces Session border controller device that produces VoIP, which generates internet access on mobile phone. Based on that fact alone, I thought due to increasing demand on the smart phone market the value of the business would increase. And I have looked over the news from Wall Street Journal and Morningstar there were no big publicity. However, when I overlooked their financials I saw a steady decrease in the historical value of EPS along with slow growth in revenues. I saw that the stock value would decrease, so I recommended shorting the stock due to slow growth. As a result, the stock value went down and was able to profit in short gains.
In an aggressive evolving marketplace I have studied risk analysis to have a better picture of the market. I would first look at cases where a stock portfolio would perform under a recession or boom. I evaluated the percentage change to determine the price increase of a portfolio due to macroeconomic factors. Then I overlooked the statistical analysis of beta and used SML formula to indicate if the stock is over or undervalued. Through analyzing the risk taken on a particular stock I can find the true value of a stock. Furthermore, I have learned not to get persuaded with wrong publicity. I have learned to be more analytical for facts.
I would like to be a part of this dynamic organization driven by success. The return would be extravagant and together we can build the firm’s future and vision, while impacting the global and economical future. I look forward for a follow up. Please do not hesitate to call or email me at your earliest convenience to arrange an interview. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
