Sample cover letter for Internship position at Goldman

POSITION:

IBD

My curious nature and love for problem solving have led me to pursue a career in Investment Banking. I am eager to work in this environment as I find the work ethic and continuous learning to be exhilarating. By working in investment banking, I know that I will be mentally challenged every day, and as a person who never turns down a challenge, I am excited by this prospect.

My hard working attitude and self-discipline are driven by my aspiration for excellence, which are exemplified through the various roles and achievements over the years. I led my 1st XV rugby team to league success by encouraging perseverance and tenacity to my teammates, and using my ability to thrive under pressure with individuals from any back background.

Serving as Vice President of the Physics society whilst achieving Silver and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh awards exposed me to the importance of being a good leader and fine-tuned my ability to interact as a team member, but also reflects my perseverance and self-determination.

My divisional preference is Global Markets in particular Investment banking, which consists of subdivisions, such as mergers & acquisitions. The investment banker plays capital market advisory role to corporations and governments, raising money in the capital markets, assisting with mergers and acquisition, and identifying risks within projects before moving forward.

I would excel in this role due to my natural abilities in mathematics and problem solving, which resulted to an A in IGCSE and A-level maths. I have showcased my interpersonal skills required through leadership roles in societies and teams. Goldman Sachs reputation as number one Mergers and acquisitions division in the world and its culture for excellence, effective teamwork, competitiveness and dedication to its people makes it an environment I am eager to be exposed to and learn in.
