International affairs has always been one of my passions. In fact, I undertook a bachelor degree in international affairs at a university located in the political capital of Europe, Brussels. My aspiration to study international affairs was due to the utopian but motivating idea that I could, if not change the world, bring my own perspective and ideas to it. I am currently fleshing out my knowledge at King’s College London, majoring in International Peace and Security. I have become increasingly interested in ranging issues of international peace and security including human rights law, Russian and Eurasian studies, and gender studies. In order to apply my theoretical knowledge into practice, I have done several internships in European institutions in Brussels, including the European Parliament and Council of Europe.
While working at the Council of Europe office in Brussels, party of my responsibility was to organise and manage events together with other interns. On a weekly basis the office held conference talks and presentations, which were commonly followed by a social event. Although, this task was pleasant, it required good organisational and time-management skills. Working under the instructions to organise event within a short notice and strict time, the environment could sometimes become stressful. Hence, it was crucial to manage time and organisation effectively, work as a team and be enthusiastic. Being part of the Committee organising the annual Conflict, Security and Development Conference on “Post-2015 Development Challenges in Conflict Zones”, I applied the previous experience to help me work effectively. My main responsibility was to conduct interviews with the guest speakers after the conference, to summarise their main points and their general opinion of the conference.
During my summer internship at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Tajikistan, I worked together with youth projects related to gender equality. As part of my volunteering work, I had to keep the website of one of the youth projects, Y-Peer, up to date. This was vital to the project, as it allowed to aware youth of informative events held by Y-Peer, on youth rights, obligations and opportunities. about their rights, obligations and opportunities. Furthermore, it allowed the project to extend its network on a more national level, and include youth from all over the country.
With this in mind, I strongly hope to be accepted at the ICC, as a I believe that working at such an international environment will help me further broaden my perspective and gain knowledge in a new, unfamiliar sphere.. Thank you again for your time and consideration.
