I am a senior at State University, where I am majoring in Finance, Economics and Political Science, and anticipate completing my degree in May 2012. The academic training I have acquired complements the work of an [company] Intern. My majors combine the importance of strong quantitative abilities, and creative out-of-the-box thinking in an effort to resourcefully solve problems in a variety of business domains. Over the past year I was able to apply these principles in my work as Editor of Technology and Medicine for the School Business Review (SBR), an undergraduate business magazine. One of the issues SBR faced was the lack of a formalized system for communication between staff during the editing process. This problem strongly affected the financing of each edition, as a lag in editing resulted in the loss of advertising revenue. To address this problem, I developed a system using shared Google Spreadsheets which increased transparency as it allowed writers, editors, and designers to simultaneously assess the status of each article. This system, which I designed to improve communication among staff will ultimately allow for more effective advertising campaigns and allow editors to better gauge how to assist writers.

My strong leadership capacity and my project management skills will fit well with [company]’s team-oriented approach to business. I was able to hone my leadership skills during my summer at the London School of Economics and Political Science. In the management course, I collaborated with a six-person team as we created a formal business plan consisting of analysis in the realms of marketing, distribution, financing, and production. These skills have prepared me to flourish as an [company] Intern because I have seen firsthand the importance of organizational alignment and the codependence of business divisions in relation to the success of a business.
