I am a full time MSc student studying Law and Accounting at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and I am writing to express my interest in the Financial Analyst position in your Financial Restructuring Group. Houlihan Lokey’s status as the No. 1 global advisor in restructuring, and its position as a highly respected, global middle market firm is what attracted me to apply for the role. I feel that the position offers a great opportunity to gain transactional experience in insolvency work, restructuring, and special purpose investing, something I had less exposure to in my previous role.

Prior to commencing my MSc, I spent 2 years in investment banking and advisory services at ALFA GCM Limited, where I held an Associate role, and led a 4-person transaction executions and advisory team working directly with our Managing Directors. I collaborated with client management teams to create presentations, refined operational and valuation models, and participated in pitches and negotiations between our clients and potential investors. This experience was vital in developing a sense for what the potential investors wanted to focus on, and fostered my ability to analyse financial statements and teamwork skills. Prior to my leaving the company to study, I had the opportunity to work on a USD 300 mill equity financing deal with a UK based client, which had a strong impact on me because of the multidisciplinary knowledge required for the deal (equity financing, USD 20 mill bridging financing and the creation of a USD 20 mill PRC JV), but also because it was the first deal of that size where I was fully involved in all aspects of the transaction and was able to see the deal through from inception to closing.

Given my work experience in the sector, my project management and problem solving skills, along with an analytical mind-set, I believe that I am a good fit for your financial analyst position and could apply my skills to the benefit of your financial restructuring team. I am impressed by Houlihan Lokey’s reputation and its position in advisory, and look forward to potentially joining and contributing to the FRG team in Hong Kong.
