Sample cover letter for Internship position at Howell-Jones

POSITION:

Law Intern

Dear Olivia,

My name is Carmen Palmer, and I live in Kingston upon Thames. As a first-year History undergraduate student at University of Warwick, I have identified law as being a particularly well-suited career path for me given the valuable skill-set I am acquiring. I would therefore like to explore this further, and would be most grateful if your firm could provide me with a week of work experience during the summer.

The intellectual rigor and independence of my course is furthering my ability to conduct detailed research, and is enabling me to conduct critical reasoning and analysis. My experience of giving speeches to prospective parents and students as Head Girl of my secondary school greatly improved my capacity to present findings in a clear and persuasive manner, both orally and in writing. I feel that these qualities are extremely valuable for a career in law.

I am particularly interested in dispute resolution and employment law, and have identified that Howell Jones provides both of these services to your clients. I very much admire your commitment to client care, and feel that work experience with your firm would be greatly beneficial in gaining insight, first-hand information and hands-on legal experience regarding these sectors.

Please find attached my CV.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Carmen Palme
