Green Chemistry Cover Letter

Dear Mr. XXX,

I hope this finds you well. My name is XXX and I am currently studying Chemistry and Economics at XXX College in the United States. I was brought up and attended school in London, and my father is an Imperial College graduate. I am writing to you, upon suggestion from XXX, in pursuit of an internship related to Green Chemistry. Green Chemistry is the topic of highest interest to me, as it perfectly articulates my ambitions in preventing environmental degradation in a powerful and effective way. Green chemistry also links in my interest in economics. Breakthroughs in substituting hazardous synthesis procedures with ones that not only are significantly less harmful but also utilize waste from other techniques can completely change a company’s cost structure resulting in a more economically efficient firm with fewer negative externalities.

XXX has a peculiar term system that consists of four quarter terms throughout the year. Each student is required to take three quarters a year, and because I studied during the Summer quarter this year, I am free to pursue an internship this Winter. I am free January through mid-March and would really appreciate any position you may have available either in a lab, or anywhere else that incorporates research into Green Chemistry. I have attached a paper I wrote on the topic last spring, and would appreciate you taking the time to read it. I have also attached my CV.
