Sample cover letter for Internship position at JP Morgan
Quantitative research analyst
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to apply for the Quantitative Research - Analyst position. In the year of my MSc Hons in mathematics with finance at Imperial College, I am aiming for a career as an quantitative risk analyst.
During my BSc degree, I have significantly improved my quantitative analytical skills, achieving 1st class especially in Mathematics Modeling with finance, as well as the Random Walk and Martingale with Finance. As well as starting to learn how to program in C this year in Imperial College, I am going to select ‘ Monte Carlo ’ course to learn how to simulate physical systems in next semester. I have learnt how this model is useful in practice to develop market tracking models and analyze data from numerous sources where there is a high degree of uncertainty during the presentation.
JP Morgan first attracted my attention when I read about the fact that from the first day inside the company, I would have the opportunity to make an impact, where I could be actively involved in recruiting talented people from a variety of background. Furthermore, JP Morgan Beijing focuses more on the Investment Banking rather than Retail Banking. In this situation, JP Morgan provided mutual experience related to Liquidity or such management proposals for investors from different institutions among the world. Since JP Morgan has been entering China for more than 30 years, it knows well about the local markets, such as this market information is important to all the potential investors. Based on these aspects, I am really interested in to join into this company to make some really differences, for example by applying the simplified T+1 algorithm, one can improve the speed of getting returns from RMB investing.
A recent internship last summer as a regulatory data analyst for AMA financial department sparked my interest in the modeling and data analysis sector. Although initially hired to assist with simple case management, I was quickly given responsibility for researching and evaluating the currency interest rate in the export/import sector. My commercial awareness increased through daily monitoring of the currency rate and discussions with internal clients in other business units, as well as external clients, such as supplied chain company executives and government officials. I received feedback on my excellent communication and team-working ability in a demanding professional role.
If there is any further information you require, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to discussing my application with you in person soon.
Your faithfully
Nan Yi
