I was very pleased to see on your website that you are accepting applications for the GBS Consulting Program, and I am writing to apply for it. I first became interested in IBM when Watson took on Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings during Jeopardy’s IBM challenge in 2011, and have been very interested in IBM’s interdisciplinary approach to using digital technology to spur innovation, provide solutions, and boost profits for clients.

I am a senior at ___________________ studying Economics with a minor in Finance and Business Management. I have knowledge of statistics, economics and business management practices, as well as experience using programs such as Matlab, SAS, STATA, and R in a classroom setting. Furthermore, I have a solid understanding of the challenges that companies face finding solutions in an ever-evolving technological environment. Through my Operations and Production course, I gained a profound understanding of how consultants must ask thought provoking questions in order to better understand the needs of their clients. On one hypothetical case study project, my team and I sought to erase the loss one company projected on a construction project. We reassessed the timeline of the construction project and were able to gain more favorable terms on the lease of heavy equipment and contracted employees; we ended up turning the project profitable.

My professional experience includes a summer internship at a start-up company Green Livery Inc, where I had the opportunity to write a business plan that focused on acquiring new clients. The immediate short-term affect of the plan was an increase in revenue by 20%. Currently, I am working as an intern Financial Analyst at AHRC NYC on a team managing an operating budget of $250MM. By working at IBM I hope to use my diverse skillset to enrich your clients’ business as well as working up to a senior role where I am able to lead a team of consultants to successfully provide solutions to your Fortune 1000 clients.
