Sample cover letter for Internship position at JP Morgan
Investment Management Summer Analyst
Please describe your motivation for applying to the AM - Investment Management program within J.P. Morgan. Please give details of any skills you have that would be relevant to this area (300 words)
I was very honored to be the finalist of the Asset Management Challenge earlier this year. The AMC was extremely intense and full of challenges. Our team had to 1) analyze a customer’s potential demands, 2) forecast the short-term and the long-term trends of global economy, 3) weigh the profitability and risks of different investment targets, 4) write an investment report, and 5) come up with a presentation strategy all within two weeks. Yet it was very rewarding having the opportunity to look into multiple facets of asset management and equipping myself with the ability to put myself in a customer’s shoes, to make practical use of theoretical concepts and quantitative skills, and to work as a team. These priceless things I learned and the fascination of asset management made the AMC one of the highlights of my university life. Thus, I decided to apply for this program, aiming to become a part of the asset management industry.
After the AMC, I managed to enrich myself through ways besides in-school study. I have started an equity research internship at Yuanta Investment Consulting from this June, which I get to learn from senior analysts the fundamentals of market analysis, and to use Excel and Bloomberg frequently for the purpose of data collection. I have been trained to work with efficiency as well as to be detail-oriented. I also took part in a housing market research conference held by Taishin commercial bank this August, working as a team to do research and presenting the findings to the president and senior managers. Through this experience I further enhanced my communication and presentation skills. I am confident that my experiences and skills provide the relevant foundations for this program.
