Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Law Firm
Trainee Trademark Attorney
GOT THE JOB? Yes
Dear Mrs Jenkins,
I am writing to express my interest in joining Stobbs as a trainee trade mark attorney. As a graduate of BPP Law School with experience in trade mark law I believe I possess the necessary skills that will enable me to thrive in this position.
I am drawn to the firm’s small structure and to the high degree of responsibility placed on each trainee, which I believe fosters greater ownership and accelerates career development. I realised this over the course of an internship at Gazprom Petroleum, where the small size of the team I operated in afforded me the opportunity to take on seminal responsibilities such as prescribing risk management solutions and offering strategic recommendations to clients hoping to invest in West Africa. I found this to be incredibly motivating and fulfilling, as the greater my responsibilities, the more significant my contributions to the company and value as an employee. Finding that Stobbs promotes such initiative and ownership amongst its attorneys encourages me to apply for a traineeship, as I am confident my enthusiastic disposition for responsibility will allow me to succeed at the firm.
Stobbs’ top-tier ranking in the trade mark sector is also highly appealing, as my experience as an intellectual property consultant for Gayatech has solidified my interest in all things linked to trade mark protection. During my time with Gayatech, I was mainly in charge of performing substantial research on European trade mark legislations and of ensuring the firm’s compliance with these legislations during the registration of the Gayatech trade mark. I however also assisted the firm’s legal counsel in the drafting of trademark applications, invention assignment agreements and non-disclosure agreements. Coupled with my fluency in French, English and Spanish, I am confident that my knowledge and interest in trade mark protection can be excellently applied to the cross- border work Stobbs carries out for companies wishing to promote and protect their trade mark on a European level.
The firm’s” straight-up” IP approach has also been particularly interesting to me due to my substantial pro-bono experience. Whilst volunteering at Her Majesty’s Peterborough Prison for instance, I was given the opportunity to translate British rights to francophone inmates and to help them with the process of repatriation to their home country. I also frequently participated in the preliminary process of client trials and reviewed client testimonies as part of assisting solicitors in their advocacy of immigration rights. This experience enabled me to gain a practical approach to solving legal problems but it most of all taught me to speak to clients in a language they could understand and to provide them with fully” de-intellectualized” legal advice , which I am sure will translate well to Stobbs’ ethos.
For these reasons, I am highly keen on securing a traineeship with Stobbs to begin my career in intellectual property law. I am confident that my skills, interests and values will flourish at the firm and will augment its commitment to provide the highest calibre of legal services.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course and would like to thank you for your consideration.
Yours Sincerely,
Alexandre L.R Moizan
