Sample cover letter for Internship position at Law Firm

I am currently in my # year of the joint J.D./M.B.A. program at the University of XXX,

faculties of Law and Business, and I am pleased to submit my application for a 201* Summer

Student position at Major Law Firm.

My desire to join Major Law Firm is the result of several considerations. My experience in the M.B.A.

program has piqued my interest in Mergers and Acquisition Law and I recognize that Major Law Firm is

a leading Canadian law firm in this arena. I am also eager to gain exposure to other areas of the

firm’s practice, particularly the Competition and Business groups. I believe that the firm’s

Business Law rotation will provide me with an engaging experience of the practice of law and

thus allow me to determine specifically what type of practice I am most interested in pursuing.

Finally, after meeting with Mr. Lawyer of the Law group, and discussing the firm

with articling students, I am confident that the culture of the firm suits my personality. I work

best in challenging but collegial environments and believe that I will find this at Major Law Firm.

Through my extracurricular and employment experiences, I have developed the necessary skills

to succeed at Law Firm. Last summer I started my own business. This unique endeavour helped me to understand the legal

risks from a business owner’s perspective, and enhanced my relationship-building skills. As

position of the J.D./M.B.A. Student Association, I have honed my problem solving,

communication and time management skills by organizing social events and initiating a research

project for both the Faculty of Law and Business. While employed as a summer student at Law Firm, I sharpened my legal research and writing abilities. By assisting with lease, share purchase

and partnership agreements, I developed an interest in transactional law while also enhancing my

analytical skills and attention to detail. Additionally, as a Sales Representative at Company, I helped to create team sales strategies and learned how to manage client expectations.

Most importantly, I am a team player who is eager to learn and gain exposure to all aspects of the

practice of law at Major Law Firm.
