Sample cover letter for Internship position at MTU
Engineer
GOT THE JOB? Yes
The current MSc Computational Science Course that I am pursuing makes me an apt candidate for your internship as it gives me an opportunity to learn advanced scientific and numeric programming. Also the experiences I have from my Bacherlor Course in Mechanical engineering will help me to make the most of the internship.
During the TUMexchange Summer Semester 2016 program I am completing my Bachelor Thesis under the guidance of Dr. Stefan Adami of Department of Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics. The thesis was based on Secondary Atomisation of Drops due to the Shockwaves where I had to develop a C++ code to carry out the Direct Numeric Simulation of the Navier Stokes Equation. This has provide with first-hand experience in developing a program on a modern programming language based on an already existing algorithm. Previously, at home university I was involved in the calibration of a newly installed Shock Tube in our college using the Ansys Workbench Fluent module. The results of the simulation were used for cross verifying of pressure sensor in the tube. The project has given me a considerable insight into Computational Fluid Dynamics as tool to visualise high speed flows. Also under the guidance of Dr. Nagaraj S.R. of Amrita School of Engineering, I presented a report on “Design and Optimisation of a Waverider”. Where I designed a waverider to travel at speed of Mach 4 using the simulation results in air for a k-epsilon model we made change to get an optimised waverider.
These projects that I have undertaken shows that I have an experience in computational approach of dealing with engineering problems.
