Sample cover letter for Internship position at Man group
POSITION:
Asset Management
1) Why do you want to join Man's summer internship Programme and why are you interested in working in asset management?
- ØAfter conducting research into Man Group and learning about their aims and objectives I was convinced that this is an organization that I would be proud to be a part of. Pursuing a degree in Economics has aided in creating a financial foundation for my career and working for Man Group I can further build on that foundation whilst embracing the fast-paced, dynamic environment of the organization.
- One of the other reasons why I was really driven to apply for the organization is the fact that I'll be able to showcase my capabilities and skills, both financial and interpersonal, whilst working alongside the diverse workforce of the company. Although there are many fields in finance, I’m mostly interested in the ones where I can expect to be working on something new everyday. This is where asset management fits in perfectly because from politics to extreme weather, anything that affects markets and their behavior would affect how people invest therefore I can expect to be working in a diverse range of situations in this role.
2) What key skills do you possess/have you developed which you believe will make you a successful candidate?
- ØLike I mentioned before I am pursuing a degree in economics, which means that I would’ve develop a sound knowledge of how different markets within the economy operate and factors that drive these markets. With this knowledge I feel I would be more competent in making crucial decisions when it would come to the allocation of assets in order to get the most optimal return.
- Moreover, the degree has also aided in developing a foundation for statistical analysis and has developed my ability to work with programs such as excel in order to create different spreadsheets and models for financial projections and at the same time has improved my knowledge of Mathematics, something that has always been my strength, but now I can apply the knowledge into financial models in order to generate projections for example that would allow me to make faster decision. These are some of the main factors which are I feel show why I would be an optimal candidate for this role and I would feel proud to be part of this organization where I can showcase these results to generate excellent results for both the business and its clients.
3) Give an example of a time when you have worked with others to achieve a common goal or solve a problem outside of the academic world.
- ØFor Enactus charity work my group had to come up of a way in order to raise money for our project. We both had a common goal, which was to try and raise as much money as possible whilst keeping the costs of the project to a minimum so that we can generate as much money as possible towards our cause. After much thought we decided to go with the idea of having skittles in a jar and allowing people to guess how many there were in the jar in order to have the opportunity to win them all. In order to get as much money as possible I allowed people to donate as much money as they wanted rather than having a cap at a certain amount. With the aid of this idea we were able to generate over £100 within a few hours with the cost being lower than £5. With the money generated we were able to buy some resources to help towards the project for the charity.
4) Describe the most challenging experience you have gone through and what you learned from it.
- ØStarting University would definitely be one of the most challenging experiences of my life. First year was very daunting because I was no longer in my comfort zone with teachers looking over my back and friends to always spend time with. Instead I had to work independently and put myself out there in front of others in order to meet new people. The first couple of months were the hardest because I had to adapt to a new place, meet new people and learn new skills in a short period of time. However, with that being said I think that this was one of those experience that I’m glad that I went through because not only did it make me much, much more independent, but it also gave me the opportunity to learn ways in order to adapt to situations that I wouldn’t necessarily feel confortable working or living in. It gave me the ability to interact with others more confidently and has drastically affected my competence in a positive manner.
