Sample cover letter for Internship position at McKinsey

Dear Sir/Madam

I wish to submit my application for the Summer Business Analyst Role at McKinsey & Company’s London office. I attach my CV as well as the completed online application form.

I have now completed two of four years reading XXXX, , and I am on the brink of beginning my Erasmus year at the University of XXXXXX . I have also been given a fast-track to interview for a big four firm in XXX. However, above XXX and XXXX, I would love to train and work in London with McKinsey & Co. McKinsey caught my attention when attending my very first organisation and management lecture in my freshmen year when our lecturer advised us if we want to get ahead in this class, we should read FT and of course McKinsey’s Quarterly. My reading of this, as well as the Insights App, on my commute home has given me a sense of what it would be like to work for a firm such as McKinsey & Co. My two primary reasons for wanting to experience McKinsey are as follows:

I am constantly seeking to improve my skills and I am a perfectionist in my work. My CV will attest to this, through my work on my own large-scale entertainment projects as well as overseeing the financing of some of Europe’s largest events, my keen interest in our XXXXXX and most recently my high-pressure role as lead expeditor in theXXXXX. I believe McKinsey offer the best approach to learning in their multi-specialist approach across many industries. I want to make an informed decision on what industry I would specialise in, and better understand the many current trends within the global economy, such as big data analytics, blockchain, and social media.

I also love to travel and I want to work in a global firm. I believe that McKinsey & Co, by virtue of their office locations and international clients are a consulting firm that is truly international.
