Sample cover letter for Internship position at Mckinsey
Business Analyst
Mentored by an experienced consultant and project manager last year, I learned that a career in consulting is very
exciting and impactful as I will be involved in various interesting projects. Therefore, I will have the opportunities to
pursue my two passions, business development and strategies, and achieve my career aspiration, which is to make a real
impact to the world by helping clients achieve their unique objectives and realize their ambitions.
Last summer, I decided to join the business analyst summer internship program to gain more insights into the consulting
industry. Through my daily interactions with business analysts and consultants, I enhanced my analytical and problem-
solving skills by studying and analyzing various markets, industries and businesses. Based on my extensive research, I
constructed detailed SWOT analysis for clients’ companies, evaluated their competitiveness and identified cost-saving
opportunities. As a result, I successfully helped a corporate client identify and eliminate ineffective advertisement
methods for his business and saved 15% of its marketing cost. I also helped the aforementioned client assess and
evaluate potential target companies to complete backward integration. I became very motivated towards being
consultant and I developed strong relationship with clients and colleagues as my advice and analysis helped them
achieve their goals. During the China stock market crash, I collaborated with colleagues across the investment
management department to evaluate the performance of publicly listed companies and brainstorm investment
strategies to help our clients. Consequently, I successfully assisted 6 clients to recover, on average, 40% of their funds. In
short, my fruitful professional experience further underlined my passion for the business world and boosted my
confidence.
I am particularly attracted to Boston Consulting group because it is the world’s leader in the consulting industry and the
firm has clients in all sectors and regions. I will therefore have the opportunities to study different markets, industries
and companies and embark on exciting global business challenges. After networking with representatives from BCG
during a presentation at Imperial College London, I was extremely impressed by BCG’s diverse and inclusive culture. And
I was strongly motivated by the company’s firmly held values of integrity, teamwork and delivering values to client to an
impact on society. Especially, I have tremendous respect for BCG’s creative and innovative approaches and
methodologies, such as the ‘Growth Share Matrix’, towards problem solving. I strongly believe that innovation is the
best way to improve performance and therefore I always look at each problem from a fresh perspective and build novel
solutions from the ground up.
