Sample cover letter for Internship position at Microprocessor Designs

POSITION:

Electrical Intern

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for a summer internship at Microprocessor Designs, as listed through the University of Vermont CEMS internship program. I’m a Junior Electrical Engineer, also pursuing a Business Administration minor. I had an electrical design internship last summer, but want to explore engineering as a whole more deeply through prototyping and fabrication. I am fascinated by PCB design and creation, and want to gain more exposure to them. I have also always held an interest in powered prosthetics, and uPD’s developments in 2009 and work with Bionx made a huge impact on this field.

Over the past three years, I have learned the concepts of Electrical Engineering and the theory thereof. This has included courses in circuit theory and analysis, as well as modeling software and physics. This has also included lab experience exploring circuitry and electrical components. Some projects from these labs include the creation of a DC power supply and a “color organ:” a device to light a certain LED in accordance to input frequency. In my free time, I have been restoring a 1981 Yamaha SR500 motorcycle, my second restoration. These projects have involved diagnosing systems, sourcing parts, soldering connections, and (in the last case) a generous helping of elbow grease.

In the past, I’ve worked well in a variety of different environments, including an assistant management position outdoors, as well as in an office cubicle. Having done so, believe that I can work well alongside a wide variety of coworkers and teammates on a variety of different projects. I feel that I can excel at uPD, and would love to discuss the position further. Thank you for your consideration, and please feel free to contact me by phone or email.

Best regards,
