Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently an Associate in the Audit division at a Big 4 firm and I am writing to apply for the 2015 Investment Banking Analyst Programme in London. I am passionate about the business world and through the this role I will have the opportunity to go beyond the obvious and receive a deeper understanding and real insight about corporations’ strategy and it’s successful implementation. The current global financial conditions indicate the importance for financial institutions to manage the risk they face from threats and opportunities to improve their performance and sustain growth in such competitive environment.

I strongly believe that the combination of my education and inquisitive, social personality would enable me to excel as an Investment Banker at Morgan Stanley. At University, I have applied quantitative and qualitative techniques, including data analysis and interpretation, to solve challenging business problems and make appropriate decisions. As part of a group coursework in my second year, I have been using Excel spreadsheets to design a financial model for a fictitious toy company to process accounting transactions, produce financial statements and maintain records. Moreover, the structure of the course with its emphasis on team and individual projects has enabled me to develop good presentation and communication skills. Finally, undertaking mydissertation over the summer indicates my commitment and ability to pursue research, carefully plan ahead and deliver a long-term project.

As the sports secretary of the Law society, with 250 members, I successfully liaised between students and the staff at the University and actively supported students in an array of issues. Moreover, throughout my long-term involvement in sports, prior and during University, I have become a more sociable and confident person when interacting with other people and a good team player. Finally, my exposure to various different environments, through travelling, being in the army and studying and working abroad, has made me highly adaptable, receptive and aware of various cultural attitudes and sensibilities.
