Sample cover letter for Internship position at Morgan Stanley

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in the --- Morgan Stanley Spring Week. I am currently a first year undergraduate student, studying -----. The course has taught me to explore how different institutions make decisions, and also how history, culture, and the surrounding environment can impact the economy. I believe that attending a Spring Week at Morgan Stanley will allow me to explore how the decision-making concepts that I study in my degree are applied in real life, and will also provide me with an opportunity to explore the different divisions further.

In --- I attended the Morgan Stanley Step In Step Up programme, which convinced me to explore a career in the financial services industry. I was extremely impressed with the company’s dynamic and open culture, innovative environment, and friendly employees. It was interesting to learn about the company’s different divisions, such as research and M&A, and I believe that a Spring Week will allow me to explore these departments in greater depth.

I am a motivated person, and I always enjoy taking on challenges, and completing tasks to the best of my ability. Since joining university, I have joined many extracurricular clubs in order to meet new people, and widen my outlook. Coxing a team of rowers has allowed me to develop my leadership skills and my sense of responsibility, as it requires me to think on the spot and creatively manoeuvre people out of (sometimes) precarious situations. Singing in an acapella group has improved my presentation skills, and as I have recently been elected as Treasurer, I hope that the role will teach me more about organising finances and planning for events (we are currently saving up for a show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe). I have also started practising --, and street dance, which not only improves my fitness, but also allows me to meet and work with people in smaller groups.

I would like to gain a place in the Morgan Stanley Spring Week because it would help me to experience what the working environment is like, and allow me to learn more about the company and its employees.
