Sample cover letter for Internship position at Morgan Stanley
Operations
GOT THE JOB? Yes
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to apply of the role of operations intern at Morgan Stanley. Having finished working as a business administrator at Prowling Lions (an Outsourcing company) over the summer and have begun studying Politics at Queen Mary, I am looking to gain experience in banking over summer. My desires to work for Morgan Stanley is derived from its unrivalled prestige, global name and expanding client base. I have a passion for finance and would like learn further about the field at a leading investment bank with decades of experience.
Morgan Stanley appeals to me as on one of the most prestigious investment banks globally. By joining Morgan Stanley I hope to enhance my career whilst gaining an insight of investment banking operations at a leading investment bank. Recently, attending Insight Events at Credit Suisse, the FCO and PWC have confirmed my desire to work at a leading global firm, with status, clients and the challenging environment that Morgan Stanley distinguishably offers. I am constantly fascinated by the fast paced environment that the field of finance offers.
I would like the chance to learn about diverse functions in operations required to support front office, such as how trades are captured, settled and booked for large deals. One particular deal that attracted me to Morgan Stanley, is the bank’s collaboration with Netflix to raise capital and to write its financial script. By joining the bank I hope to learn more about deals like this from an operations. Operations plays key controls that a bank needs, including P&L, Risk reporting and balance sheet control. It has played a key part of regulations like Basel 2.5 and Volcker that have changed that the environment banks operate in. These regulations have cemented operations as central to banks.
Previously working as a business admin and completing a variety of work experiences have paired me with the ability to use MS Office, managing CRM databases, databases and Outlook, and familiarity with fast paced environments. I believe these skills are vital to succeed in operations and in banking. Working in newspaper sales for organisation called Worker’s Liberty and completing work experience have allowed me to develop my communication skills, ability to work with different people and ability to adapt to different working environments. At present I am working as an Outreach Officer for the Labour Society at University, where I have raised the awareness of the Labour Party outside of University, where I was presenting the party to schools and college students. Allowing me to develop my organisational skills and ability to present ideas and persuade people.
Working at Prowling Lions, I experienced managing and building relationships with new clients. The role required me to build a strong relationship with new client, where I could form a foundation for the company outside the UK. I enjoyed the task, as it gave me the chance to build relationships with clients across the world and take an active role in the businesses’ expansion. During my time I had developed my client focus and passion for being involved in the expansion of businesses.
Finally, my wide set of experiences and placements have equipped me with the understanding and the professional mind-set to adapt a constantly changing environment. I hope to further my abilities and professional development through this opportunity.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
