Sample cover letter for Internship position at Morgan Stanley
Summer Intern
GOT THE JOB? Yes
I am a 3rd year MEng Engineering Science (Electrical/Biomedical) undergraduate student from Trinity College, Oxford University. I am interested in applying for the 2017 Investment Banking Summer Analyst position at Morgan Stanley, Singapore.
Morgan Stanley has always been a top player in the Investment Banking League Tables. Since its founding in 1935, Morgan Stanley has been a significant global presence not only in investment banking but also in other financial services sectors. This reflects the bank’s strong ability to adapt to the constantly changing global environment, ensuring the bank’s survivability. In addition, the bank has a strong culture of investing in its new talent with the aim of training new employees into future business leaders. With Singapore’s status as a Southeast Asian financial hub that I call home, Morgan Stanley Singapore will be an exciting place to begin my career in Asian M&A. I am keen on pursuing a long-term career in M&A because I enjoy the rigor, intensity and adrenalin that come with the fast-paced job of an investment banker. Furthermore, I particularly appreciate the goal-oriented nature of M&A and the need for a plethora of different varying skill sets in each phase of an M&A transaction.
Although I am an applicant with a non-traditional background for finance roles, I believe the skills I have obtained so far from my course provide me with the necessary skills to perform well. Engineering is a course that involves the quantitative analysis of problems while presenting a solution clearly and concisely. I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stint as a Corporate Finance Summer Analyst in Deloitte Singapore over the past summer. Although the M&A deals I worked on were mostly middle market, I believe the experience I gained there in preparing pitch books and financial valuation will allow me to thrive as a Summer Analyst in Morgan Stanley. In addition, over the course of last year, I was also a part of Oxford Finance Lab, an extracurricular programme that prepares current students for investment banking careers. Through that, I learned financial modeling, a necessary skill for investment bankers. Together in a team of 3, I also managed to get into the finals of the Bridgepoint Challenge, an investment proposal cum financial modeling (LBO) competition.
Enclosed is my CV for your perusal. My internship availability is from late June 2017 to late September 2017. I look forward to your favorable reply.
Thank you.
