I am seeking to apply for a Summer Analyst internship position with Morgan Stanley. I learned about your company through the Trading and Investment Society at my University.

I am currently in my 2^nd year, studying Economics at the University of Manchester. While I have a comprehensive Economics background, my emphasis is on investment banking. I have always had an interest in banking and finance, the financial crisis of 2008 was an important event for me, which sharply brought into focus the role of the banking industry and how just one particular sector in the economy can have such a profound impact globally. Investment banking requires strong analytical skills and judging by the subjects I have taken up in the past and the grades I achieved, I believe I possess this skill. With the number of academic certificates I have achieved in my high school, I am very confident that I have the diligent attitude, which is essential to work in this division. I feel that your firm places prominence in this division, which I have applied for and having the privilege of serving as an intern with you will give me that further exposure I need to advance my career.

My main motivation for entering into the investment banking division can be attributed to a will for variety in my career. The vast range of companies and their corresponding industries that an investment banker will come into contact over the course of the career will result in developing a well-rounded working knowledge of the world. The Investment banking division also houses some of the world’s smartest people and I believe working with them will enable me to learn faster and better. I am also confident that a career in this division will help in developing in me a fuller and better-rounded business acumen. Upon graduating, I hope to work for a firm that specializes in Investment banking and eventually start up my own company. With the right opportunities and the experience in this chosen career path, I believe I can achieve this goal. I hope to with the help of your firm.

The extraordinary makeover during the rubble of the financial crisis is what attracted me to Morgan Stanley. After the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008, Morgan Stanley was the next giant waiting to fall. Despite the fall in its share prices and the yanking of tens of billions of dollars from its prime service platforms by hedge funds, it still managed to transform itself into a well-rounded, client-focused investment bank within a few months. A firm with such history will definitely create an environment to cultivate excellence, stimulate creativity and encourage improvement, which is essential in the investment bank division. Morgan Stanley also focuses on having a positive impact on a community and by expansion, the world. They offer green bonds as investment opportunities for investors. I found this particularly interesting because during my volunteer experience in Brazil, I realised how small inputs into a society could make such a significant difference. Furthermore, Morgan Stanley places great emphasis on team-work and diversity to create an inclusive working environment, which one day I hope to be part of.
