Sample cover letter for Full Time position at NERA

I am applying for the graduate position in London as discussed today on the phone.  

During a project at Bain in 2014 I researched how industry trends impacted Bain’s private equity partners. The project improved my research skills, developed my ability to present and summarise complex materials, and made me realise that client relationships are essential in consultancy. In 2009 I started as a fundraiser at Pepperminds and in 2010 I was promoted to part-time coordinator because I exceeded my personal targets. As a coordinator I was responsible for the success of my team and, by cooperation and management, we exceeded our sponsoring targets for twenty consecutive months. Finally, I improved my presentation and teamwork abilities by volunteering for The Salvation Army.

By discussing NERA with XX (corporate finance team), I realised that I would love to work at NERA for three reasons. Firstly, I am interested in all practice areas of NERA London such as competition, regulation, and performance assessment (in sectors such as energy, financial services and transport) because I consider NERAs work essential to the functioning of the economy. Secondly, NERA hosts a stimulating and friendly environment for ambitious economists that aim to engage critically and intellectually with today’s economic reality. In this environment I know I will thrive. Finally, NERA's research is rigorous and precise because its results can have a huge impact on government and business. I find this responsibility motivating and inspiring since I aim to expose society’s true economic mechanisms.
