I’m applying to be considered for the R&D and Technical Service Internships position which I heard about through my discussion with who is a respected alumnus from our lab at Purdue University. I am also well acquainted with the position through a seminar ****gave at our department and I think my background, interests and future career goal closely matches that of the position at Novozymes.

I am currently a PhD candidate at the Laboratory of *** at Purdue with an anticipated graduation date of December 2016. The variety of courses I have taken in Chemical Engineering and my back ground in Biosystems Engineering have given me a strong perspective as a BioChemical Engineer which suits the R&D position well.

My research into lignocellulosics pretreatment as well as value added by-products production on a nano-scale has granted me the opportunity to gain hands on experience with chemistry lab techniques as well as becoming proficient using a variety of wet and dry chemistry analytical tools, including spectrometric as well as chromatographic methods. Additionally, my course work has included assignments where I worked with outside companies on real-world process engineering problems in the food and chemicals industry.

Moreover through my previous job experience at a multinational firm, I have become very familiar in daily report writing and technical correspondence which is essential in any large organization.

I have come to appreciate how the fundamental science behind my lab experiments binds with the art of conducting the experiments in achieving the desired outcome. During my time at *** as well as my previous internship at the Biorenewables Research Laboratory at Iowa State, I have come to understand accuracy and safety are utmost important when it comes to conducting laboratory experiments and together with thorough report writing form the pillars of success in the lab.

While I have gained lab scale experience with enzyme hydrolysis and fermentation modeling through my courses an internship with Novozymes will help me become fully immersed in an engineering/scientific environment and learn about the manufacturing systems and iterations involved in enzymes production.
