Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Oliver Wyman

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a third year History student at UCL writing in response to a recent vacancy for Oliver Wyman. I wish to apply for the post of entry-level Consultant.

While attending your company’s presentation on 13^th May I was particularly attracted to Oliver Wyman’s collaborative and entrepreneurial culture, and excited by the international work opportunities. The prospect of contributing to specialist industries that I have experience in such as Financial Services, Aviation and Health and Life Sciences also greatly appealed to me and thus strengthened my belief that Oliver Wyman would be the ideal place for me to leverage my strong analytical and problem-solving skills to make a substantial impact in the Management Consulting industry.

I believe my strong science background and prior experience within Financial Services will enable me to be an effective part of Oliver Wyman. After my A-Level studies I worked for five years as an Aviation Risk Analyst, where I used my problem-solving skills and initiative to create and implement new strategies to increase the productivity of my team. For example I created an excel model to automate complex premium cession calculations that were previously handled manually. Through my subsequent Biochemistry studies I further developed the analytical and research skills needed to solve business issues, as demonstrated during my summer internship in Corporate Services advisory at Ecco. I played a proactive role here, making valuable contributions to projects by performing market research that was used in deliverables.

Through voluntary work and extracurricular interests I have further developed the soft skills required to be a successful consultant. As a volunteer for disabled adults I interpret the behaviour of clients who aren’t able to fully express themselves; this has greatly increased my emotional intelligence and maturity. Participating in various musical ensembles has also improved my team-working skills and enabled me to exercise my creativity.

With my skills, experience and enthusiasm I am confident that I will be able to make a positive contribution to Oliver Wyman. I would appreciate the opportunity to interview with you on November 20^th/21^st. I have attached a copy of my CV and look forward to hearing from you.
