My name is xxx and am currently a penultimate year student at the University of xxx. As a student who is eager to work in investment banking, I am determined to apply for the Analyst position at one of the top financial advisory firms in the London location. My interest in Capital Markets and M&A was developed when taking up Financial Markets and Corporate Finance in my second year. Taking up these modules have given me a strong base in the theory surrounding Capital Markets and M&A. Through the established long track record and multiple awards, Operis has emerged as among the top financial advisory firms.

To demonstrate taking initiative in this field, I have taken up one of ten Analyst positions in the university's Trade and Investment Club. Taking up this role has presented the opportunity to gain deeper understanding of valuations and run analyses on different sectors, mainly Energy & Mining (E&M) companies, as this was the sector I was responsible for. Moreover, we were tasked to mentor our student members on key concepts that are being used in the field. To do this effectively, we were required to devise interactive and stimulating events that would attract genuine interest into the field. Besides curriculums, my involvement in the Glasgow University Weightlifting team, that regularly competes among UK universities, has created an awareness regarding the significance of team values and natural desire to win. Furthermore, my experience in the hospitality and customer service industry as a bartender and banquet staff, which required me to work 15 hour shifts at times, instilled perseverance, stamina and great attention to detail as supreme execution of service was key to the business I believe that these skills could really be an asset and add value to Operis.

An opportunity at Operis will allow me to have real-world experience and become more efficient in creating financial models and valuing companies/sectors as this skill is invaluable regardless of departments. A big factor that motivates me working in advisory is the ability to work in high-pressured environments and further develop ‘people’ skills, as there are potential clients that are more difficult to handle. I was further motivated to apply with Operis is that the business model is purely advisory and does not have conflict between the client’s best interest and its own.
