Sample cover letter for Internship position at PA Consulting

POSITION:

Mechanical Engineer Summer Intern

 Dear Hiring Manager,

I am currently a 3rd year student at the University of Bristol, completing a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. Through my modules in materials engineering and design and manufacturing I have garnered an interest the design and manufacturing process. Whilst at university I have been able to design, build and learn about the methodology behind what it means to develop a product, from these experiences I have learnt a lot and only want to encourage this progress.

PA Consulting Group is unique in that it maintains a wide range of specialities, which means that by working for your team I would be able to vastly expand my view that encompasses my profession. I am particularly interested in the development of medical equipment, with such a large market the ability to improve upon or revolutionise medical devices would prove to be highly profitable and benefit a significant amount of people. Such innovations as the colonoscope designed for Ethicon Endo-Surgery and your collaboration with Monica Healthcare is a testament to how well known and diverse PA Consulting is, and by having such a variety of workers you are able to jump into and quickly assess new fields that you haven’t previously been a part of before. Being in your organisation would allow me to have a far greater learning experience than any other firm.

By being part of the commercial side of Enactus Bristol I believe I can effectively participate in your organisation. Enactus is a student-led charity aiming to provide sustainable and economic support to impoverished communities, through entrepreneurial action. In the past 2 years I have arranged fundraising drives of up to £700, and have raised the profile of the society through public speaking and media campaigns. In doing such projects as organising events, distributing goods, and campaigning I have had to be creative and analytical in order to achieve my goals. I worked within a wider group of 20 people, and it has been an invaluable experience. They have also allowed me to improve my leadership skills through programmes, and increased my exposure to the marketing and commercial side of the working industry. From being a part of Enactus not only to develop my skills outside of academia, but also for the rare opportunity to have used my abilities to create a tangible and lasting effect on people’s lives.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss this further. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
