Sample cover letter for Internship position at Putnam
Financial Analyst
I am writing to apply for the Summer Intern position of Quantitative Investment Research. I found this job opening on Nittany Lion Career Network. After researching your company’s services and culture, it is evident that you employ individuals who are team players and are dedicated to success. My strong analytical skills, accompanied by my work experiences, teamwork skills, and knowledge of C++, match your desired qualifications very well.
During my time at Penn State University, I have developed excellent quantitative research and analytic skills through a number of academic projects. I worked on projects that use excel to analyze risk and return, evaluate project value, and calculate cost of capital for a company. Through these projects, I learned about the problem solving techniques for making financial decisions. Moreover, I have developed working knowledge of C++ through designing and implementing an inventory report system using C++. These are precisely the skills that I would use in the investment research.
As you can see on my resume, I worked as an intern in the Personal Banking Department in Bank of China during the summer of 2015. During this internship, I tracked, analyzed, and documented over 200 auto loan and mortgage applications through multiple platforms. My work helped to increase the efficiency of loan processing by 20%. In addition, I collaborated with global financial managers and other peer interns on solving issues related to clients’ applications such as missing or misrepresented client information. We helped to streamline the application process through enhanced communication with clients. This internship enhances my teamwork skills and problem-solving skills as I meet new problems on a daily basis. I would use the team work skills at Putnam Investments as I work on the quantitative investment research.
Thank you in advance for reviewing my information. I believe my skill set is a good fit to the summer intern position. I welcome the opportunity for an interview and I can be contacted by email.
