Sample cover letter for Full Time position at RBC

POSITION:

CPA Associate

Dear head recruiter,

Inspired by the culture of inclusion and devotion to excellence, RBC is no doubt a global leading financial institution, and it was the interaction with the talented individuals at RBC including Elizabeth Bendia and Mairi Cote that truly showed me the professionalism, employee engagement and rich inherent learning culture of your firm. I also recognized the presence of a strongly unique supportive culture that I envision myself to be a part of in the future. As an aspiring CPA, I am writing towards my interest in beginning my journey at RBC in the CPA rotational program. I truly believe that my driven personality would allow me to thrive, develop and fully contribute in the unlimited opportunities that RBC offers.

Acknowledging that RBC selects only the best leaders, I view myself as a top candidate due to my experience of both working in and leading complex teams. Notably, one of my most privileged roles is the VP of marketing and finance on the iBBA committee. As a leader and a key contributor to the executive team of a committee that oversees over 600 iBBA students and manages the financial budget for a series of events, I was given the challenge to raise funds for the upcoming conference. I have successfully organized and executed the Schulich talent show for three consecutive years by working closely with other executives and using zero based budgeting, as a result generating record revenues of $6000 and over 500 attendees every show. Through this experience, I am confident that I have developed leadership and communication skills that can positively contribute to the highly capable teams at RBC.

Moreover, my work at BDO strongly exemplifies my analytical skills, knowledge of auditing and my ability to form trusting relationships. I was given the responsibility to prepare CAFs with my team of 8 in preparation for a company’s IPO. I took the initiative to act as a primary liaison between the team and the organization’s finance department by maintaining open communication over email and phone, then diplomatically but firmly following up on deadlines. I was able to improve the efficiency of analyzing financial statements and their supporting documents by using software to streamline reports and summarize information. As a result, being able to accelerate the project by one week on a strict three week agenda. Through these actions, I was able to improve our team’s coordination and also impart a positive impression on the partners of this organization. I believe that my dedication and strive for excellence thoroughly displayed within such settings is fully compatible with the excellent client service provided at RBC.

I have long considered public accounting to be a fulfilling career for me, and I deeply believe the RBC rotational program is the perfect place to pursue those aspirations. In being exposed to the culture of your firm, I soon realized that it is a place where I could develop trusting relationships and challenge myself with new experiences every day. I am eager to engage in the five guiding principles that has lead RBC to success and it is only within such growth-oriented environment that I can truly contribute my best back to RBC to reach my full potential. I am confident that with my skills and experiences, I would be an ideal candidate for this position. Thank you for your time, I hope to hear from you soon.
