Sample cover letter for Internship position at RBS

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for xxx summer internship at the xxx. I am available from the beginning of June, 5 days per week.

Being one of the oldest banks in the world xxx has managed to get through one of the toughest crisis since the Great Depression and beat analysts' expectations in the first quarter of the 2014 with a net profit of 1.2 billion pounds. This goes to prove that the time for xxx recovery has come. Moreover, I believe that successful companies always evolving, never stand still and the recent plan that has been announced should positively affect the number of bank’s customers. In my view being the part of one of the top banks (especially top-10 currency traders by the market share) in the world that has such a long history and experience in finance is the best opportunity for me now.

After having the course called xxx I understood that xxx is the field that I am really interested in and would like to know it better. It is known that sometimes there is a huge gap between theory and practice, especially in financial markets, where implementing just models won’t perfectly work, as there is also one big and important part as behavioral side of the finance that should be taken into account. In my opinion this knowledge can’t be obtained by only reading papers and books; working in the real market conditions and developing the necessary (forecasting) skills is the only way to understand how it works. The internship on xxx will be a great opportunity for me to better understand a part of financial markets and especially financial instruments from inside (like how to analyze the xxx exposure and how to work on the pricing improvements) and learn all the pitfalls in this field.

Being a person who is always searching for a chance of self-improvement and gaining new knowledge I believe I can be a good candidate for this summer internship. It is worth mentioning, that my multicultural upbringing has taught me to see the world and most problems through multiple lenses and what is more important easily get on with people. Furthermore, almost one year among international students where group assignments were the crucial part of my Master program has made me a skillful team worker.

If I have a chance to be one of the interns I would try to create the condition of mutual benefits for both parts. Thank you very much for your consideration, and I’m looking forward to your reply. I would greatly appreciate if you give me the possibility of an interview.
