Sample cover letter for Internship position at RGA

I am writing to apply for the Summer Intern position at Reinsurance Group of America, since I believe this is an opportunity to share my skills, as well as gain more experience in financial analysis. I am a Master of Finance student at xxx University. I spoke with Charloth Day at Olin’s Meet the Firm Career Fair, and I am very interested in this opportunity. I am impressed by RGA’s leading position and achievement of ‘’Life Reinsurance Company of the Year” in 2013. This continued success sparked my desire to join the team to seek out how its team members interact and communicate with each other, and how they strive toward the common goal of enhancing their “clients’ prosperity by supporting their financial and risk management capabilities.”

An outstanding intern relies on strong quantitative reasoning and statistical analysis, the ability to work independently and maintain self-motivation, and excellent communication skills. My past experience has equipped me with all these skills and I am ready to contribute these at RGA.

During my undergraduate study in International Finance, I had exposure to Economics, Financial Statement Analysis, Econometrics, etc. and developed strong interest in finance. To further my knowledge in quantitative reasoning and data processing skills I attended the Master of Risk Management Program at the University of xxx and join the Master of Finance (Quantitative track) at xxx University. At both school, I practiced Risk Management Analysis, Statistics, Financial Modeling, Simulation, and Programming in Matlab, R, VBA, and C++. I have also passed the CFA Level II exam.

During my study in UK, my passion in financial analysis prompted me to do a project estimating credit risk forthe seller of an interest rate payer swaption. At that time, I had not yet learned the appropriate programming method, so I relied on the resources and skills I had available. I used Hull-White Trinomial Tree to simulate the variation trend of the interest rate, and I was able to obtain accurate result.

I honed my communication skills as an intern at xxx Company. I assisted my supervisor to conduct industry analysis and financial statement analysis to help build business model for our clients. Through cold-calling more than 200 companies to collect industry production data, I learned how quickly build a good rapport and get the most information in the shortest time.
