As a one-year MSc student at the Cass Business School London, I am writing to express my interest in the Internship in Mergers & Acquisitions at Rabobank as posted on the Cass Careers website, after completion of my last exams in June 2016.

Through several conversations with a former intern, I have come to believe that Rabobank’s environment is a very strong fit for me, both culturally and professionally. An essential factor that has prompted me to apply was that your firm has a global leading market position in Food & Agriculture. Having co-founded a start-up that focuses on the distribution of food products, I am highly aware of the importance of this sector. I am also drawn to the scale on which your firm is working on. Rabobank works on large transactions, including some of the world's most significant deals. I was highly impressed by your deal execution on Sahar Investment Group’s acquisition of Royal Greenland Seafood – transactions like that clearly justify your high ranking in European M&A league tables for the Food & Agriculture sector.

I am very keen to pursue a career in mergers & acquisitions. The wide range of projects, strong client interaction and involvement with a variety of large organisations are only a few of the reasons why this area appeals to me. It allows me to contribute my skills on the origination and execution of landmark transactions that transform company strategy through structural change, and thus have a visible impact on industries. Additionally, the detail-oriented and analytical approach when analysing and constructing company’s financial statements and financial models are highly appealing to me – processes I learned to appreciate during my role as a junior financial accountant and as a research assistant.

My most recent role as a research assistant has provided me with an abundance of opportunities to define and solve problems, set and achieve goals, and strengthen my analytical and numerical abilities. I learned to read and analyse scientific literature and data and built financial models that connected to my specific research. Prior to this role, I was employed as a junior financial accountant. In this effort, I honed my detail-oriented ability and developed sound written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Corresponding key accounting indicators between important clients and stakeholders required me to be highly communicative, in order to analyse financial transactions and reconcile financial statements, often under tight time constraints. Whether in an office or at the university, I have gained a strong commitment to teamwork. My leadership role as a student teacher and coordinator, has helped me develop the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of peers in order to leverage the best of our abilities.

With my penchant for excellent communication and my passion for solving analytical problems, I am confident that I can make significant contributions to Rabobank.
