I am writing to you because I would like to apply for a summer internship position at your firm. I am currently studying my second year of aeronautical engineering at Imperial College, and I would like to use this opportunity to further my skills in the effect of aerodynamics in motorsport. Renault Sport is one of the leaders in this area, being currently enrolled in the highest forms of motorsport.

At Imperial College, besides the educational curriculum, I am learning a good number of skills new to me, such as the ability to take important decisions, work in groups of people of multiple backgrounds or combine studies with multiple extracurricular activities. I hope that my academic background and these skills will allow me to integrate in such a demanding company that is Renault sport as well as be able to cope with multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines and teamwork.

I don’t have previous experience at other firms. However, I have taken part in multiple group design projects such as the construction of a wind turbine for my L2 Applications exercise or the design, manufacture and test of an aluminium alloy structure subject to multiple design constraints. On the other hand, I am also part of the universities rowing team which has taught me the values of teamwork and the importance of organisation, as well as experience in a very competitive sport just like motorsport.

I know that I am applying to one of the most reputed motorsport companies and that it is the professional ambition of many students and young engineers. However, I hope you find my my academic background and personal experience interesting enough. One last thing I can assure you is that I am passionate about motorsport and the technology involved, and that I am fully committed to take advantage of the opportunity, if I am finally selected.
