Dear Sir/Madam

Re: Application for Social Statistician

I write to express my interest in the position currently advertised by your organisation.

Currently, I work as a Independent Consultant and have completed consultancies with International Labour Organisation (ILO). The position of Social Statistician interest me given my knowledge, skills and experiences in this field over the past few years. I also am in my final semester to obtain a advanced qualification in Applied Economics from the University of Auckland (Masters in Applied Economics).

Furthermore, I have previously worked for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) and the United Nations ILO Pacific Office in positions which required data collection, analysis and reporting. During my time in these positions, I have hugely contributed towards producing publications such as tracking reports, project evaluation reports and development of action/implementation plans.

Although none of these positions were directly related to Civil Registration, the responsibilities for these positions were very similar to that required by this position. In line with my area of work, I had worked closely with the SPC’s Statistics for Development Division. In stating so, I have been on a working attachment to SPC for 3 weeks to assist the Education Specialist on data analysis and reporting of the Pacific Education Development Indicators that were presented at the 2013 Forum Education Ministerial Meeting. ired me to work in this sector.

In addition to having worked in the education sector, I have also worked for the United Nations ILO Pacific Office based in Fiji. Whilst working at ILO, I usually was tasked to conduct research and prepare analysis reports on labor issues in the Pacific Region. In this role, I coordinated and delivered technical assistance to ILO member countries. I also delivered trainings to all 10 member states on International Labour Standards and conducted capacity assessment on legislative changes proposed by member states. Following my employment at UN ILO, I had accepted a scholarship to upgrade my qualification and skills which could better support my career objectives to work in a technical institution such as the Secretariat.

I hope my application is taken into consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Regards

Sivendra Michael
