“There is no greater joy nor greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someone’s life.”

Mary Rose McGeady

I always believe in striking a balance in all phases of my life: be it academic, professional or personal. My perception of a balanced life is excelling in all aspects of life and not giving emphasis on any particular one at the cost of failing in the others.

I am a final year B.Tech student enrolled in the Department Of Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

I request for an opportunity to work with Teach For India as a Fellowship Recruitment intern. It will be an honour on my part to support the movement launched by Teach For India and will also serve to be a way of giving back to the society and to the country.

The value of education has been instilled in me by my parents since a very early age. As a student, I have always been one of the top performers in my class. I always had a proclivity for Physics and Mathematics simply because of the joy in solving the challenging analytical and logical problems, which was reflected in my performances in various National and International level examinations like National Level Olympiads in Physics, Mathematics Olympiads by University of New South Wales, Australia etc. The aptitude that developed motivated me to choose a career in engineering and I then cracked JEE-2012 with AIR-2217 to get into IIT Kharagpur.

I had my most significant industrial experience as a Summer Intern at JSW Steel Ltd. which honed my ability to influence change by taking initiatives, while working with a team. From the technical perspective, I designed an optimization model in MATLAB that is currently being used in the industry for minimum cost coal blend generation saving the company around $130,000 per month by increasing the yield by 20%. On the commercial front I performed a break-even analysis of usage of petroleum coke in the industry which required in-depth market and pricing analysis.

Owing to my strong inclination to problem solving and analysis of situations I, in a team of four, took part in CIMA GBC, a global business case competition sponsored by CIMA and Barclays UK. We provided detailed financial capacity estimations, financial projections, industrial and strategic analysis, etc. for a hypothetical Oil and Gas company. I being the strategic consultant of the team was pivotal in making our team reach the National Finals (Top 10 out of 400 odd teams in India).

I enjoy working with teams and taking initiatives and hold several leadership positions within my various extracurricular activities. Currently I am the Governor of ‘Druheen’- Technology Dramatics Society under Technology Students Gymkhana for the session 2015-16 for in house and out station representation of IIT Kharagpur on the dramatics forum. I was instrumental in organising 4 in house productions and also a drama festival and workshop witnessing a footfall of over 700. I was pivotal in managing all the three facets of the fest namely EVENTS, PUBLICITY and BUDGETING.

I also have keen interests in Social Service programmes which inspired me to join National Service Scheme (NSS), where I tutor local youth in math and reading and organise frequent blood donation camps as well as health camps in the institute which saw a footfall of over 1500.
