Sample cover letter for Internship position at Schneider Associates

Dear Internship Coordinator,

I am writing as a student seeking a spot as a Public Relations & Social Media intern during Summer 2014. I am currently a sophomore at _______ University, majoring in public relations and pursuing minors in women’s studies and psychology. Although the classroom teaches theory well, there is nothing like experience working at a full service firm to strengthen my public relations knowledge.

My writing, outreach, research and communication skills have strengthened from previous public relations experience. As the public relations manager for _____, I expanded website traffic by managing various social media platforms, planned various promotion events, and reached out to blogs and organizations for publicity. My greatest accomplishment working at _____ was launching a thriving sector of the website at ______ by scouting potential brand reps, then later instructing them the same outreach and communication skills the CEO of the company taught me herself.

Eventually, my personal social media following became high enough to become nominated as an HBO Campus agent for HBO’s hit show, “_____”. I gained experience in the event planning field when I took on the responsibility of planning a “_____”-themed marathon using supplies and a $100 budget HBO granted me. On top of the “____” party, I also had to use social media to increase the_____ University audience for the show. Working with “_____” has been one of my most rewarding public relations experiences yet - nothing has been more incredible than incorporating one of my favorite shows into my public relations career.

Leadership and teamwork have also been shown throughout my membership of my sorority, _______, where I have participated in several committees. Through these committees, I’ve assisted my peers in planning and executing philanthropy events benefitting the ________, social events, and new member activities. I am passionate about the _______’s work, and have enjoyed my experiences helping plan events with my sorority in order to raise money for the charity and spread awareness of all they have to offer.

I believe I would be a rewarding asset to Schneider because my past experience, strong work ethic, and talents give me the ability to reflect Schneider’s five core values: teamwork, respect, passion, trust, and creativity. I hope very much that Schneider will help me create and invent my future career and that I will be afforded a chance to both help, and learn from a thriving firm.
