I am interested in the Social Studies position for the 2015-2016 academic year at Watertown- Mayer Middle School. I am well qualified for this position, currently holding a Minnesota certification for Social Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and History. My experiences as a mentor, student teacher, and substitute teacher have offered me the opportunity to interact with a wide range of ages and diverse settings. Recently, I completed a long term substitute position at Edison Middle School in Sioux Falls where I taught 8th grade social studies. Throughout my student teaching I taught at middle and high schools in the Sioux Falls School District. I have had a wide range of teaching experiences within the Social Sciences. These include student teaching Social Studies, World History, American History, Psychology, and assisting in AP World History. Throughout the time I have spent in the Augustana Education program and student teaching, I have developed into an educator I am proud of. Being a well-rounded educator, I have developed remarkable communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. I pride myself in having a true passion for my students and content area. I am especially focused on student centered learning. It is exciting to see my students engaged in a lesson and creating an environment in which all students feel welcome. In addition to completing an undergraduate degree, I have extended my involvement past the classroom. I have been blessed with the opportunities to remove myself from my comfort zone and past my cultural norms. While pursuing my bachelor’s degree, I studied abroad on two different occasions, one in Russia and the other in Israel. Traveling to those two nations allowed me to greatly expand my knowledge of history and politics. In addition, my experience of living in a foreign country strengthened my ability to communicate with others and taught me how to be more flexible, patient, and adaptive. I strongly believe these experiences have helped mold my educational stance. I aim to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, and intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to Watertown- Mayer Middle School.
