PERSONAL STATEMENT

My academics achievements, my work experience, and my community service have all helped me to work towards my goals. For as long as I can remember my goal was to serve Humanity. To reach my goals, I realize that I must pursue my masters’ degree in Public Health which will begin with the fall 2015 semester. I am very excited about my future and feel that with the opportunity your scholarship will provide, will enable me to fulfillmy desire to serveothers and to expand my knowledge base. Throughout my life, I have participated in extracurricular activities, including valuable volunteer experiences. I have striven for academic excellence, always managing to work to provide some of my basic educational expenses.

While in the undergraduate school, Ihave always chosen challenging courses. I took challenging courses such as physics, chemistry, rural education, heredity& evolution, and Entrepreneurship studies. I was able to maintain an excellent GPA, allowing me to graduate with honors.

In addition to school related activities, I am involved with my local church. I teach a class of 3-10 years. I have participated in community cleanup, community outreaches and volunteerism. I feel that by participating in community-related activities I am setting a positive example for the children.

I have developed strong leadership skills, adaptability, self reliance,independence, ingenuity for problem solving, ability to withstand stress and face challenges and have learned to communicate effectively and interact with a wide variety of people while working several different jobswhich is mostly teaching and tutoring.

I also have a good record of community service. As an active member of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, I have volunteered my time in organizing and supervising community outreach and developing comphrensive health education programs and initiatives. I have also done community work such as malaria and hepatitis screening, school sanitizations, conducting of First Aid Trainings to High school students, drug distributions.

Evidence of my ability to solve problems and think “outside the box” may be found in my initiation of the “Eye Test” to public/commercial bus drivers. A research project which I took major part in was conducted to look into the causes of major road accidents. From the result of the intensive research work, it was discovered that a bad eye sight contributed a major factor to the cause of road accidents. An Eye screening was conducted in the rural/interior for commercial bus drivers and actions were taken to help remedialthis problem.

Also, my ability to express thoughts in speech and writing has been evident through my active volunteerismwithUNICEF (U-Reporter).Have had many opportunities of observing, reporting and making contributions to bring solutions to health problems arising on a daily basis in my environment.

I have faced many challenges, balancing work andschool, and I have willingly given my time. To reach my goals, I need as much help as possible. I already have the moral support of, myfamily and friends, but that is not quite enough to make my dream come through. I hope that your organization will see from the evident abilities that I am a good candidate for the scholarship and willhelp me reach this dreamof serving humanity byawarding me your scholarship.
