To whom it may concern:

After researching opportunities at Schroders, I am submitting my application for the Investment Graduate Programme.

I originally chose to study in London because it is probably the most international city in the world, and I wanted to continue to expose myself to people from different backgrounds and cultures after enjoying that kind of environment while living in Shanghai for three years. I decided to apply for a position in London for the same reason; here I will continue to encounter and work with people from all over the world, learning from them and enriching my knowledge with their experiences. I also chose to apply for a position in London because I have developed a network here through school, where I have already met many of my future colleagues and industry professionals.

I decided to specifically to apply to Schroders not only for their excellent reputation in the asset management industry, but because it offers the advantages of a large corporation – the ability to take on large projects and clients – without losing its ability to be personable and adaptable. I also like that Schroders supports its graduates not only through the first level of the CFA, but through the second and third levels too, including time and instructors devoted to studying.

I chose the Investment Graduate scheme specifically due to its relevance to my current studies, which I find interesting and challenging. I especially like my Equity Analysis and Portfolio Theory modules, and I feel that they will be most applicable to my future goal of becoming a portfolio manager. I prefer to concentrate on the Equities area, as I have experience running regressions and making assessments on securities through my capstone class in my undergraduate program, and currently as a part of several of my Masters modules.

I have experience from my position at Nitori Co., Ltd in Shanghai with large presentations and proposals to upper management, so I feel comfortable speaking publicly – whether it be to a client or a research team. I am also comfortable talking to people from all cultures and backgrounds, as I met people from all over the world, working and living in Shanghai for three years. I am particularly effective in groupwork, having successfully completed group projects in my undergraduate, professional, and now postgraduate career. In each project I helped coordinate team members’ strengths and weaknesses for an effective work strategy, and because of my outgoing personality, easily facilitated brainstorming and team unity.
