Sample cover letter for Internship position at Schwarzkopf

POSITION:

Marketing

Dear Sir or Madam,

herewith I would like to apply for the six month internship in the international marketing department of Schwarzkopf Professional in Hamburg starting in February 2015.

My name is Ben Plöhn and I recently obtained my Bachelor of Science in International Business at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. I am now intending to do several internships in the areas of marketing and strategic management.

During my BA study program I have obtained an insight in all major fields of international business administration. Thereby, I have developed a strong interest in strategy development and marketing in an international context. The reason for my preference in strategy is that I am fascinated by the question of how to improve a competitive position with the given internal resources and external circumstances. Regarding marketing I am interested in developing strategic concepts that create a beneficial outcome for the firm and its partners, in particular the customer.

Besides learning about economical and organizational theory one major part of my study program was the practical application of the learned material on fictional and real-life business cases. Through individual as well as teamwork assignments we had to develop strategic business plans, for instance an effective marketing mix. I was really excited about the coordination of diverse projects in a dynamic group setting, in which different characters and competences had to interlock properly in order to complete the task successfully.

Motivated by my strong interest in strategy and marketing in an international context I also decided to write about this subject in my Bachelor thesis. Therein, I analyzed the affect of different marketing strategies in foreign markets on a firm’s financial performance.

Besides my interest in the field of international business I am also interested in different cultures and the general global context of modern life. As I have lived in several foreign countries for my studies and volunteer work (see CV) I had the opportunity to become acquainted with new aspects of life and expand my cultural horizon. On the basis of my gained experience, I have developed a keen interest in the global business context and the development of strategic decisions. This mindset, among others, let me to my study program choice.

In September 2015 I will begin my Master study program at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Until then I aim to do several internships in the areas of strategy development and marketing in order to get a first insight into the real business world. Currently, I am working as an internee at a German medium-sized company in the area of market strategy development for the foreign market. As part of this internship I am also working at a consulting group in the area of market analysis.

An internship at the international marketing department of Schwarzkopf would enable me to get an insight into the marketing operations of a multinational market leading company and to contribute to its operational success. Furthermore, I would have the opportunity to further deepen my practical knowledge before staring my Master study program.

I would be pleased about a positive response.

With kind regards

Ben J. Plöhn
