Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Single Stop

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apply for the Manager of Program Performance and Evaluation position at Single Stop. I heard this position from my friend Feng Chen, who is working as Data & Evaluation Fellow at Single Stop. I received my PhD degree in Applied Economics from University of Missouri in December, 2015. With my background, experience, interest and skills, I am convinced that I am a good fit for this position.

First, in my past academic and industrial experiences, I have proven to be effective at gleaning actionable insights from big noisy datasets by applying the most appropriate statistical models and leveraging sophisticated computing infrastructure and software. For program performance tracking/evaluation approaches, I am proficient in propensity matching score, and random experimental design. I am proficient with all common regression and hypothesis testing techniques and my solid theoretical understanding allow me to learn any specific models quickly. Moreover, I am proficient in programming with STATA, SAS, SQL, and have expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. I have at least 4 years’ experience in using STATA for empirical research.

Second, I know well about public policies, like tax credits, food stamps, WIC program. I am interested in these policies since these can help some families, kids, or students overcome some difficult periods in their life. For example, for low income family, mom and babies can apply WIC program since pregnancy, and kids till 5 years old. This would be a big help for those young parents who cannot have enough income to raise family due to different reasons. It is such a pleasure if I can help someone who needs but does not know these policies.

Third, I am capable to lead specific project independently and coordinate different sectors or organization. When I was research assistant at China Agricultural University, I was responsible for several projects. I also coordinated team members to accomplish quarterly, annually progress reports and often discussed about appropriate research methods. I also designed field survey questionnaires, and took survey in different sites. When I worked at IHS Global Insight, I coordinated with other sectors to get the data from third party. Good collaboration and communication can make us accomplish our objectives more efficiently and effectively. In addition, I am very passionate to work for nonprofit organization.
