Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Smartwool

POSITION:

Junior Product Manager

Dear Hiring Manager,

As a Product Development and Procurement Analyst I developed and implemented multiple Excel databases that served as accurate communication devices between departments and eliminated redundant work and miscommunications. The new method of relaying information saved enough time that I was also able to lead a cost savings project that resulted in an average margin increase of 0.7 across all SKUs without any increase to retail prices. I want to bring this same focus on constant improvement to the product development team at Smartwool.

Smartwool is a company that is known for doing the right thing. In addition to making high performance products that encourage consumers to get outside every day, the company is involved with the Sustainability Working Group, has its own philanthropic advocacy fund, and is constantly evolving its supply chain to have low environmental impact and positive social implications. I want to be part of growing a company that believes social and natural profit is as important as the financial bottom line.

I have two years of experience managing the BOMs and tech packs for new product development. This includes tracking prototypes and sampling materials, reviewing and negotiating vendor pricing, ensuring all data is input in PLM, and managing wear tests. 90% of the SKUs from the most recent line sheet I worked on turned over to production with full lead times and profitable margin, a significant increase over the 60% rate of on time turnovers from previous markets.

My past supervisors have praised me for learning quickly and using new knowledge to generate unique and creative ideas to improve products, services, and processes. This characteristic, in conjunction with my recent apparel product development coursework at the Fashion Institute of Technology, equip me to enter the dynamic and growing industry of performance and sports-inspired apparel and accessories.

I am relocating to Colorado shortly and would be glad to travel for an interview at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration!

Sincerely,

Application
