GOT THE JOB? Yes
Dear ...
I am a first year student at ..., pursuing an undergraduate degree in ..., and I would like to apply for a place at the corporate and investment banking insight event “Stand Out”.
The financial industry and particularly the human resources (HR) profession appeals to me because of its combination of business acumen and interpersonal skills. I was alerted of the insight schemes organised by Stafford Long and Partners by the ... career’s service and after further research, the Stand Out event appeared to offer an ideal opportunity to gain insight into the HR intern roles available within the corporate and investment banking sectors. I have also developed a very positive view of Stafford Long and Partners’ mission, due the firm’s emphasis on promoting the agenda of females in the financial industry and encouraging young professionals to take on early responsibility.
During my time at the ..., I enjoyed the challenging environment of the three-week intensive course in organisational behaviour, and achieved the joint highest grade amongst my peers (A+) in the university style final examination. I also had the opportunity to engage in a group consultancy project which made use of Goldman Sachs as a case study. My role involved carrying out a SWOT analysis of the existing firm culture, performance evaluation and compensation practices in order to prepare suggestions for improving employee wellbeing and performance in the workplace. I presented the findings as part of a team to an audience of our peers and professors, who all responded very positively and the latter of which awarded us the highest grade in the project (A). A personality trait I highly admire is continuous personal development, and I have sought out opportunities for further self improvement, outside of academic settings, through volunteer work. While on my student mental health placement in ..., I worked in an unfamiliar cultural context, alongside a variety of community members and psychiatric professionals, in order to plan and supervise therapeutic activities designed to support individuals suffering from mental health issues. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience as it afforded me the opportunity to develop my communication and strategic thinking skills.
Finally, I am an enthusiastic team player, and I am eager to take on my recently secured role of Treasurer for the .... Society, which will involve collaborating with other committee members to deliver a programme of events and activities for society members.
I attach a copy of my CV and hope to hear from you soon, regarding a place at the Stand Out insight event.
Yours sincerely,
