Sample cover letter for Internship position at The Academy Playhouse
Intern
As an experienced performer, my goal for the summer of 2016 is to become comfortable with all aspects of theater. Throughout childhood my mother would always be playing Broadway show tunes in the car and I loved singing along to Mamma Mia and Pippin, but it wasn’t until my uncle, who is a professional actor brought me into New York City to see my first broadway show, Beauty and the Beast, when I truly fell in love with theater. I was fascinated by the actors in extravagant costumes, singing in harmony, right before my very eyes. After that show I dreamed of one day performing on a big stage like that. At age ten I decided I was made my musical theater debut in Alice in Wonderland as a white rose that was painted red. In my time in theater I have had my fair share of smaller ensemble roles and with my extra time backstage, I have picked up some valuable skills. I began to help the seamstress with costume alterations and became comfortable with a sewing machine, I helped my fellow actors with hair and makeup, in the more low budget productions I doubled as a crew member, moving the large set pieces to where they needed to be onstage. Being able to see a successful production with little pieces of you in it is surprisingly rewarding. My hopes for this summer theater apprenticeship program are to expand my knowledge of technical theater and learn the skills of collaboration with new people.
