Dear Ms. Bailey,
I have attached my resume for consideration for your core tax internship position. After speaking with several UVA alumni currently at PricewaterhouseCoopers this past semester, I am impressed with the firm's emphasis on the global career progression framework, the PwC professional, and I am glad to see how these five attributes fit with my own values. As a female millennial, I strongly believe that I will not only be able to make a positive impact to your firm if given the opportunity, but that I will also be able to eagerly learn from others and quickly acquire new skills in PwC tax technology. I'm keen to work for a company that has such a high-quality of client base, a diverse staff, and that provides unique opportunities to work internationally, and PwC has that and more.
I discovered my passion for accounting during my tenure as President of Finance for my own non-profit organization called White Swan, when my duties required me to learn and apply proper accounting procedures and internal controls in order to organize the complex finances. This was a challenging task because we had partnered with Gap, Inc. and were requested to forecast our financial budget according to Gap's financial activities each year. I interacted regularly with Gap in order to ensure that the correct amount of fixed assets was used and worked as a team in the club's executive board to forecast cash flows and projected financial statements according to our different marketing plans. I also secured sponsorships to raise $1000 quarterly to efficiently decrease our operating costs and thus have a larger profit margin for charity works. While taking on the responsibilities as President of Finance, I simultaneously manage the organization’s overall operations as President to create the marketing plans targeting different people in needs. I actively participated in the Accounting Society, took different financial and accounting courses and excelled in different financial clubs, all while maintaining a healthy social life and GPA. I believe that my leadership and technical skills will be vital for my success at PwC.
I was able to apply what I had learned to my work at Baker Tilley International, where I was given the opportunity to assist the CFO with auditing Wal-Mart in their fiscal year-end closing. It was here that I found my passion for teamwork in practical business and enjoyed understanding how each employee's work helped the firm achieve its common goals. I taught myself Visual Basic programming and data analysis tools in order to further optimize my efficiency and create more holistic results.
My passion for tax and desire to understand clients and their complex businesses aligns with PwC’s transformation of tax technology and client industry. I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you further about your assurance internship position. In addition to applying on Cavlink, I have also applied at your company website, and am available should you need any additional information. I can be reached at 434-466-8142 or at [email protected]. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Zifan (Claire) Chen
