Sample cover letter for Internship position at Thompsons LLP

POSITION:

Intern

Dear XXX

I would like to thank you for your assistance with my inquiry. I am writing to apply for a work experience placement at Thompsons Solicitors. I am a first year Geography undergraduate student at the London School of Economics and Political Science. I am available from June to August. I enclose a copy of my CV as requested.

I am greatly interested in the specialized nature of Thompsons' work in personal injury. Thompsons has a formidable reputation for providing effective and efficient legal services to clients which is reflected in the broad scale of personal injury compensation the firm deals with, from accidents in the workplace and public spaces to major public disasters such as representing the victims of the Hillsborough disaster. Therefore, having a work experience placement at your firm would provide me the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience from specialized individuals and teams to understand the complex processes involved in personal injury compensation and to experience life in a specialized solicitors' firm. Furthermore, Thompsons is highly committed to providing services and attending to the best interests of injured people, not employers or defendants. This unique approach is an important motivator in my choice to apply to the firm. It reflects Thompsons' strong ethics in ensuring equal treatment and opportunities in the work place which is demonstrated by its long and successful history in supporting workers' rights. Its link to the trade union movement and its work in representing injured people makes the work at the firm very satisfying and its underlying ethos in client care is something I greatly concur with.

As an individual with a passion for human rights, I can emphasize with the trade union movements and rights of workers. I first developed an interest in human rights through volunteering in Cambodia for anti-human trafficking NGOs where I was able to learn about the history and preventative measures of human rights abuse through building relationships with ex-victims and NGO staff members. Pursuing my Geography degree has enabled me to develop highly effective analytical, communication and project management skills by working independently and with others in research projects. My high level of attentiveness and endurance combined with my strong organizational skills has helped me to attain an excellent academic record. My extracurricular activities have demonstrated my ability to perform well in a team under pressured environments and to relate to different types of people.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

XXX
