Dear Sir/Madam:
I am writing regarding my application to the GraduateCase Management Analyst Program at Thomson Reuters commencing in 2016. Currently, I am completing the final year of the BSc (Hons) International Management (Middle East and North Africa) at School of Oriental and African Studies SOAS, University of London and I am expected to achieve an Upper Second Class Honours degree. My degree has given me great insight into the financial industry, whether it is corporate finance, international marketing, business strategy and managerial economics modules. I believe that my graduate level education in management which requires careful planning, detailed research, analytical thinking and mathematical skills, will provide a solid foundation that will ensure my success in this program. The opportunity to work for Thomson Reuters is an invaluable experience, as it would allow me to immerse myself in the commercial industry at one of the highest rated source of intelligent information for the world's businesses and professionals.
Witnessing an abrupt decline in business and construction around the emerging city of Dubai, which I call home, made me think; what did the multinational construction corporations learn from the likes of The Enron Scandal, The Rupert Murdoch Fraud or the Barclays Libor manipulation allegation? After extensive research, I surmise the issues lie in weak strategic management and inadequate communication, where senior management failed to align their visions with the employees. Accurate management and coordination of teams at Thomson Reuters would mean absolute business strategy, which I deem as the ultimate route to success and business improvement. Multinational corporations such as Balfour Beatty have applied "The Global Matrix Structure" and other management styles, hoped they were the elixir. My family business in the chemicals was a prime victim of the deterioration in the property market, which is what sparked my interest in this graduate scheme as researching the economic downturn led me to conclude poor management in companies as a crucial underlying factor. I believe my innovative ideologies alongside my bold approach will ensure problem solving, thus contribute to Thomson Reuters’ success in growing as a more profitable firm.
The regulation of these companies is a crucial part in ensuring understanding the requirements such as compliance to prevent scandals such as the Enron financial scandal. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) was able to protect shareholders as well as the public from further accounting errors as a prevalent business concern. Thus, the IT compliance guidelines vary by country and multinational corporations are now conscious of the compliance obligations in each country they may operate in. Moreover, compliance safeguards lesser financial crime, as awareness is what constitutes this fraudulent activity making the financial sector less complicated for those in the organisations.
Discovering the desperation of organisations to secure growth and remain competitive; supported my in-depth business analysis at Habib Bank Limited UAE during work experience. Working with a Relationship Manager allowed me to collaborate and engage as the importance of relationships and client communications developing my social skills further. Customer service is vital to any an organisation like Thomson Reuters as bringing more personal support to customers would allow us to exceed client expectations. This highlighted the significance of building excellent relationships with internal stakeholders as I have witnessed connections between staff and customers equally important as within a working team.
As international financial crises have proved no dominant management structure can endure all hardships; I am keen to explore this managerial complexity at Thomson Reuters, alongside the challenge of sustainability in today's technologically advanced world. I would be delighted to have the opportunity to be interviewed. Thank you for your consideration.
